About Health Talk Express
Health Talk Express is a 30 minutes or less talk about a specific health topic. The Talks are designed to combine health education with cues to action for changing behavior. The goals of Health Talk Express are to:
- Identify the health problem.
- Describe an instance someone was affected by the problem.
- Identify actions that can address the problem.
- Discuss pros and cons to engaging in the action.
- Energize the participants to take action.
Health Talk Express uses Monroe’s Motivated Sequence (Attention, Need, Satisfaction, Visualization, and Call to Action) to share science-based health information. Some potential talks include: Act F.A.S.T to Prevent a Stroke, Cholesterol Matters, Know More about Cancer Screenings, Pressure Down: Controlling Your Blood Pressure, and Power to Prevent Diabetes, & Stress: Friend or Foe.
These in-person talks can be done as a single event or combined for a short series program over time. Each talk is short so they can be added to an existing event, such as a staff meeting or parent/guardian informational night.
Health Talk Express Components
- PowerPoint presentation on the topic (less than 30 minutes)
- 1-page handout
- Evaluation survey
To host a Health Talk Express, schools just need access to a presentation set up (projector, television, etc.) to show the PowerPoint.
