How to Get Recognized

1. Connect with your county Extension agent & apply.

Review this website and other materials about Healthy School Recognized Campus. Connect with your county’s Extension office to identify the Family and Community Health (FCH) agent who can work with you. Your FCH agent can advise on what programs are available in your area. Your county FCH agent can also help your school apply or you can apply directly through the Apply page by downloading and emailing the application.

The application period is open from September 1 to January 1 each school year.

2. Host Walk Across Texas! at your school.

Host Walk Across Texas at your school anytime between September 1 and May 1 of the school year.

The program will be hosted as a school-wide event and should have all grade levels and parents participate. Connect with your county’s Extension agent for steps on planning and hosting Walk Across Texas! Check out the program page for more detailed information about Walk Across Texas!

3. Host at least 1 other elementary or middle school program at your school.

Host at least one other youth program at your school between September 1 and May 1 of the school year. Programs can vary in duration and by grade level (elementary school up to high school).

Reach out to your local Extension agent for resources and/or trainings. Some programs are led by Extension agents, so contacting your agent is crucial.

4. Host at least 1 adult program at your school.

Host at least 1 adult program at your school between September 1 and May 1 of the school year. This can be for staff-only or a combination of staff and parents/guardians. Programs can vary in duration and have different focuses (such as weight management, health-related topics, etc.)

Reach out to your local Extension agent for resources and/or trainings. Some programs are led by Extension agents, so contacting your agent is crucial.

5. Submit proof of program completion & celebrate!

Schools need to submit proof of program completion to their local Extension agent by May 1. The Regional Program Leader will review completion by May 15 of the school year.

Schools will receive their banner and be recognized no later than June 15 of the school year. You will also have the opportunity to be featured on our Recognized Schools page!
